DAWN NEWELL
SENIOR PUBLICIST, WGBH

Dawn brings more than 14 years of public relations, marketing and event planning experience to her role as a senior publicist at the Boston PBS affiliate television station WGBH for the Emmy Award-winning home improvement series "This Old House."

Since joining WGBH in 2007, Dawn has developed and executed public relations programs for several other productions, including "This Old House" spin-off series "Ask This Old House" and the long-running gardening program "The Victory Garden." Before joining the WGBH team, Dawn worked at CMT Entertainment in Boston as a senior events manager and publicist. While at CMT, she managed all the logistics for several major non-profit fundraising events and coordinated local market publicity for the Travel Channel show "John Ratzenberger's Made In America."

Dawn also spent more than five years working in Los Angeles. During the bulk of her time on the West Coast, Dawn worked as a full-time publicist for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) in Beverly Hills, Calif., where she handled media relations and event logistics for the 74th – 77th annual Academy Awards ceremonies and post-Oscar Governors Balls. In addition to these annual events, she managed several smaller scale AMPAS events throughout the year. Additionally, she worked as a freelance publicist for AMPAS for the 78th and 79th Academy Awards.

Prior to joining AMPAS, Dawn spent nearly two years as a special events coordinator at Buena Vista Television in Burbank, Calif., a syndicated television division of the Walt Disney Company. Among other events, she managed the logistical aspects of the company’s participation at the National Association of Television Production Executives (NATPE), the country’s largest television convention held annually in Las Vegas.

A Massachusetts native, Dawn started her career at two well-known public relations agencies in Boston where she served a variety of consumer and business-to-business clients such as Rockport and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston.

Dawn currently sits on the Board of Governors for the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) Boston/New England chapter.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from St. Michael's College in Colchester, Vt.
